Every year the residents of the Dickens (my house in Toronto where all my friends live) get together to shoot a themed family portrait. This year we chose to recreate Rembrandt’s  ”The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp.”  The goal was to get the photo to be as close to the original as possible. I think we may have outdone ourselves this year! you be the judge…. The final print was exactly half the size of the original piece (which originally measure 85.2 in × 66.7 in) and now hangs in the Dicken’s living room framed in a ornate golden frame! Here’s the original painting and then our pic…

Right Before I moved to NYC in the Summer, I had the honour of shooting two stories for Harry Rosen Magazine. The first shoot was a feature on Vionlinist Benjamin Bowman and the second, was a story on personal shopping experience at Harry Rosen’s. The magazine was published in September for their Fall/Winter Season.

Before the holidays, I had a little 4×5 portrait shoot with my friend and actress Katie Boland. We had a great time hanging out and shooting. I ended up including  her in my Pulp Fiction Series which can be seen here. Here are the other portraits I shot with the old Graflex. I had been studying a lot of historical photos and old Baroque  portraits (paintings) at the time and was trying to experiment with the sense of stillness achieved and depicted in these type of historical portraits. enjoy!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Every year, the house/mansion that I live in with 9 of my friends has a group portrait session documenting the residents of the house for that year. Each year we come up with a theme to play out in the portrait and I am given the job of conceptualizing the photo. This year my friend Alessandro and I decided that we would choose a god for each of the residents and shoot us on the top of Mount Olympus. The Aesthetic inspiration was drawn from  the renaissance paintings of Greek Mythology. I really wanted the final group shot to have a painting look to it. For the final print which hangs over the fire place, we printed on canvas to enhance the painting look….enjoy!

When my girlfriend, Britt and I drove across the states to New Orleans, we stayed in an amazing Bed and Breakfast  called Ashton’s. The beautiful mansion is located near Treme and is owned/operated by the wonderful Patrick Ashton and his wive. Every morning Patrick would greet us with his joyous energy while cooking up the best breakfasts ever! If you are ever in New Orleans, this is the place to stay!! Here’s a portrait I shot with the 4×5 the morning we left New Orleans.

This past Sunday, I had a chance to have a very short but sweet shoot with Interscope Record’s next Hip Hop star, Yelawolf . He was is town for a show with Wiz Khalifa. He had just finished a two and half hour media/fan meet and greet before I had a chance to shoot with him. Since, I knew I wouldn’t have a lot of time to shoot with him, I showed up extra early to figure out where the best place was to set-up. He was a real chill guy and even though it was a short shoot, we got along well and I was able to get a few shots out of it that I really like. The shots are feature on ThinkContra’s  Blog here.  Big Thanks to Trung of Contra and Lola of iluvlola.net for setting up the event and getting me the access.  And of course, big ups to Yelawolf  for taking the time to shoot with me and last but not least… to Laetitia for being an amazing photo assistant! Enjoy!
